Days of Cultural Experience

The City-Country-Kiss in the Hildesheim region

From 1st to 3rd October 2021, the first "Days of Cultural Experience" will take place in the Hildesheim region. Many regional artists, but also associations, organisations, initiatives and local administrations are taking part under the motto "City-Country-Kiss". They want to revive art and culture - after a long lockdown break - and make the district shine in all of its facets.

Whether it‘s music at an open-air swimming pool or theatre in the playground: extraordinary, quiet and loud, small and large events will take place at 16 locations in the region. In Sibbesse, for example, the KulturForum and the authors' group "Wort für Wort" bring literature to the Bürgergarten. A weekend full of new experiences awaits the guests there: reading, planting and dreaming. "From field to plate, to the party at the farm" is the name of the big cultural harvest festival organised by the Landvolk in Garmissen. For two days, there will be celebrations on two neighbouring farms. On Sunday afternoon, the town of Sarstedt will host a very special choir event. In the hometown of the guitarist brothers Schenker, the unity anthem "Wind of Change" will be sung with many participants. And whistled, of course. Other events and several festivals draw people to Hoyershausen, Freden, Almstedt, Hildesheim, Bad Salzdetfurth, Alfeld, Nordstemmen and Egenstedt.

In addition, the six activities of "Kiss & Ride" invite you to cultural discovery tours through the district. On Friday evening, people will cycle into the sunset in Algermissen. Land art installations by Anna and Michael Rofka will show the way. On the same evening, inline skating fans can skate from Hildesheim to Harsum at "skate & light" with light art and music. On Saturday, a special train from the Vienenburg Railway Museum will shuttle between Hildesheim and Alfeld. It will be carrying the live radio play "Spectacular Lower Saxony". At the same time, there will be a bus tour to various studios in the region - including a drawing workshop. On Sunday, the KulturLaden Bockenem is organising a tour of ten churches in the Ambergau, where various artists will be performing. And last but not least, there is a fairy tale walk around Derneburg Castle, always in search of Frau Holles' gold treasures.

Admission is free to most events and activities. This is made possible by the funding programme "Kultursommer 2021". The Commissioner for Culture and the Media of the Federal Government supports the Days of Cultural Experience with funds from NEUSTART KULTUR. Financial support also comes from the district of Hildesheim, the towns of Hildesheim, Bad Salzdetfurth, Alfeld and Sarstedt as well as the municipality of Freden. This is mainly intended to bring benefits to the regional cultural scene, which has suffered particularly badly from the Covid-19-pandemic. In addition, the Days of Cultural Experience are intended to maintain and strengthen the successful cooperation between the district and municipalities in the context of the European Capital of Culture application.
